Document 1 – General Affidavit
State of Pennsylvania
County of Bradford
ss: No. 261906
In the matter of Orig. Inv. Pen. Claim of Henry A. Newell. Personally came before me, a Notary Public, in and for aforesaid County and State, George Field residing in Armenia Township Bradford Co. Penna. P.O. Troy Bradford Co. Penna. a citizen well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn declares in relation to aforesaid case as follows:
That he [George Field] is 51 years of age a farmer and blacksmith by occupation and has known claimant [Henry A. Newell] about 22 years: a great portion of which time claimant and he have lived in the same neighborhood: when claimant returned from the army he was suffering with chronic rheumatism: have seen him sometimes as often as once a week - he is a farmer - I have worked for him and he for me – I think he must have lost each year ¼ or ½ of his time on account of aforesaid disability.
I was in the same company with him in the army. Came home with him after our discharge. He was walking on crutches when he came from hospital to company – for a long time we lived only a few rods apart – I saw him daily or quite often and have seen him afflicted more or less up to the present time.
Affiant further declares that he has no interest in said case, and is not concerned in its prosecution.
George Field
