1. Harriet Mariah1 Hakes,
daughter of David Hakes and Eleanor Runion*, (#18366) was
born in Sullivan Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania SEP 1840. Harriet
died 1926 at age 85. Her body was interred 1926 in Watson Cemetery,Roseville,
Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
She married Melvin Updyke BEF 1876.
(Melvin Updyke is #14710.) Melvin was born NOV 1837 in Rutland Township,
Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Melvin was the son of William Updyke
and Druzilla Wood. Melvin died 20 MAY 1916 in Rutland Township,
Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 78. His body was interred MAY 1916 in
Watson Cemetery,Roseville, Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
Melvin was listed as the head of a family on the 1880 Census in Rutland
Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Melvin was listed in a directory
in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1899. Updyke Melvin, r
22, farmer, 100 acres

Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1908.

(#18367) was born in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania AUG 1876.
Hattie died 1953 at age 76. Her body was interred 1953 in Prospect Cemetery,
Mansfield, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. She married William Henry Hatfield
5 NOV 1893 in State Line, Southport Township, Chemung County, New York.
(William Henry Hatfield is #18585.) Will was born 13 JUL 1866 in
Wells Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Will was the son of William
R. Hatfield* and Angeline Unknown (Hatfield). Will died 1930
at age 63. His body was interred 1930 in Prospect Cemetery, Mansfield,
Tioga County, Pennsylvania. Will was listed in a directory in Rutland Township,
Tioga County, Pennsylvania 1899. Hatfield William H, r 22, collector and
farmer, leases of Lyman C Benson, 200 acres The source for details on the
descendants of Hattie and Will comes from Bill Odell, brother in law of
SRGP associate, Joan NASH Odell, who interviewed him in November 1996.
Bill lived across the road from the Hatfields when he was growing up. Will
was a great friend of V. B. Odell and he and Hattie later sold their farm
to their neighbors, the Odells. Will also owned a sand bank in Tioga and
did well financially when the Pinchot roads were constructed in the rural
areas. The Odells later moved to the Hatfield house across the road. Its
outstanding feature was a furnace, an unusual luxury at the time.
Will's obituary describes his career which included
a term as sherriff of Tioga County from 1907 to 1910.
3 ii. Mary Elizabeth Updyke (#18591) was born
in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania FEB 1879. Mate died 2 AUG
1942 in Roseville, Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age
63. Her body was interred AUG 1942 in Watson Cemetery,Roseville, Rutland
Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. She married William Schuyler Kennedy.
(William Schuyler Kennedy reference ,) (William Schuyler Kennedy
is #14758.) William was born 1876. William was the son of Hallock Kennedy
and Asenith Horton. William died 1947 at age 71. His body was interred
1947 in Watson Cemetery,Roseville, Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.
William was listed in a directory in Rutland Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania
1899. Kennedy Will S, r 23, farmer, son of Hallock
