LYNDEN C. (STUB) BAILEY age 70 of Box 152-158 Main St., Wellsburg, NY died Monday October 10, 1988.  Friends are invited to call at the Barrett Funeral Home, Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.  Funeral & committal services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Elmira Wesleyan Church.  The Rev. James Waddell, Rev. David Rees and the Rev. I. BENNETT - STRUZINSKY Kathryn B. (Bennett)
Age 90, a longtime resident of Erin, died Sat., Feb. 16, 2008, at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer on September 16, 2002. Surviving are her six children, daughters, Carol (Robert Paul) Struzinsky of Campbell, NY, Kathy (Orlo) Doane of Erin, NY; sons, Lynn (Doris) Struzinsky of Erin, NY, Karel (Sandra) Struzinsky of Big Flats, NY, Bruce (Linda) Struzinsky of Erin, NY, Ronald (Cheryl) Struzinsky of S. Wales, NY; grandchildren, Sandra Pearce, David (Kathy) Bailey, Cindy (Scott) Evenden, Lynn (Jolene) Struzinsky Jr., Michelle (Mark) Taber, Steven (Haleh) Struzinsky, Christine (Donald) Garris, Diane Doane, John (Tasha) Doane, Lisa Struzinsky, Mark Struzinsky, Shawn (Faye) Struzinsky, Shannon (Ted) Hills, Jennifer (Chip) Joans, Jean (Greg) Koski, Amanda Struzinsky and James Struzinsky; 32 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren. Kathryn was born Sept. 13, 1917 in Muncy Creek, PA, the daughter of the late Albert and Inez (Guild) Bennett. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Family and friends are invited to attend her service to take place at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Main St., Horseheads, on Sat., Feb. 23, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. Private interment in Scotchtown Cemetery in Erin will take place at a later date, announced in the spring. BLAUVELT - SMITH
Marguerite B. Age 89 of Church Street, Erin died unexpectedly in her sleep on Wednesday, December 19th, 2001, at the Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility in Montour Falls, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond C. Smith in 1988, her parents James and Ellen Park Blauvelt, brother Cameron Blauvelt and sister Virginia Portzline. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn & Sterling Emerson of Erin, NY; grandchildren, Kathleen & Edward Britton of Spencerport, NY and Brian & Claudine Emerson of Bar Mills, ME. She was happily anticipating the arrival of her first great-grandchild in June 2002. She is also survived by her sister, Marian Knapp of Ithaca, NY; sisters-in-law, Emma Blauvelt of Elmira, NY, Arlene Smith of Oriskany, NY, and Jeanette Smith of Coeur d'Alene, ID; and many nieces and nephews. Her greatest joy was her family. She also enjoyed sewing and growing African Violets. She was a graduate of the Geneseo Normal School and a former one-room school teacher. She was a member of the Erin United Methodist Church and the Erin Senior Citizens. It was Marguerite's wish that there be no calling hours. Her funeral service will be held at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Main St., Horseheads, on Saturday, December 22, 2001 at 11AM with the Rev. Mari Rockwell officiating. BLAUVELT Kenneth W.
Age 81, of Breesport, died Friday, April 13, 2007, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center following a brief illness. Ken was the son of late Cameron and Emma Mae (Hubbard) Blauvelt. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marian (Howe) Blauvelt; sons, Wesley (Margaret Corbit), David (Deborah Stermer); daughter, Lois (David) Struble. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua, Kyle, Emily, Andrew and Anne; one great-grandson, Jakob; brother and sisters, Betty (Thomas) Lindsay, Doris (Charles) Kline, Velma Lindsay, Dorothy (Theodore) Lepley; brother-in-law, Philip Liberatore. He was also predeceased by his sister, Marilyn Liberatore; brother-in-law, William Lindsay; and brother-in-law and close friend, Earl Howe. Ken was a lifelong resident of Erin and Breesport communities, where he was a poultryman, real estate broker and charter member of the Breesport Volunteer Fire Department. In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, restoring Cub Cadets, and watching his grandchildren grow and develop. Family and friends will be invited to call at the Breesport United Methodist Church on Sat., April 28th, 2007, from 1:30-2:00 p.m., where a celebration of his life will take place there at 2:00 p.m. and burial service to follow in Scotchtown Cemetery in Erin. Peleg C. Blauvelt, of Erin, died Tuesday morning, aged eighty-five years. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. F.C. ROSEKRANS; a son A.J. BLAUVELT, and a granddaughter, Gladys BLAUVELT. BLENCOWE - McKIBBIN, Donna M.
Age 54, of Spencer, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. She was born in Elmira, NY, on May 6, 1953. Donna is survived by her husband, Robert M. McKibbin; son, Robert (Ginger) McKibbin, Spencer; daughter, Tara McKibbin and Scott Talada, Van Etten; five grandchildren, Dylan, Lacey and Nathan McKibbin, Jamie and Elizabeth Talada; mother, Marie Stansfield, Van Etten; sisters, Linda Ann (Duane) Card, Erin and Gail Blencowe, Van Etten; stepbrothers, several nieces and nephews. Her father, Basil Blencowe predeceased her. Donna had worked as a cashier for Williams Oil Company in Van Etten. BOWMAN William L.
Age 62, of Horseheads, NY, died peacefully Monday morning, November 19, 2007, in the comfort of his home. Bill was born June 9, 1945, a son to the late Floyd and Frances Patterson Bowman. He worked as a maintenance worker with Gough Holding Corp. in Horseheads. His sons, William, Michael; and sister, Mildred, predeceased Bill. Survivors include his loving wife, Donna Schoener Bowman, who married Bill on June 19, 1980; his children, Donald (Shelly) Bowman of Horseheads, NY, Lisa (Bruce) Herrick of Bath, NY, David Corbett of Atlanta, GA, and Holly Corbett of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Kendall Winslow, Alisa Bowman, Andrea Corbett and Loralie Corbett; brothers and sisters, Kathie (Albert) Wood, Thomas (Crystal) Bowman, Floyd (Lisa) Bowman and Paul (Tammy) Bowman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will welcome relatives and friends to Sullivan's Funeral Home, 365 E. BRINK - CUMMINGS
Thelma Grace (Brink) Age 92, of Elmira and formerly a long-time resident of Elmira Heights, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Thelma was predeceased by her husband, John H. Cummings, in 1991; and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Bonnie Cummings of Erin, NY; grandchildren, Timothy, Jeffrey, Michael and Matthew Cummings; great grandchildren, Blake, Hannah, Nathan, Kate and Kaela; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, Harold Brink. Thelma was born Aug. 5, 1913 in Erin to the late Cameron and Cora (Hummer) Brink. She was a member of Oakwood Ave. United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she always appreciated the support and comfort that her friends at the church provided. Thelma retired as a LPN, her career started at the former Chemung County Infirmary in Breesport. She also did private duty nursing. Thelma ran a rooming house in Elmira Heights providing a clean, warm home for hundreds over the years. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Main St., Horseheads, on Wed., Dec. 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon where her service will take place there at 12:00 Noon. The Rev. Dr. Larry Appenzellar will officiate. Interment will take place in Scotchtown Cemetery at a later date. BROWN James W. "Pedro" Age 64 of Erin, NY, died Friday evening, June 23, 2006, at St. Joseph's Hospital. James was born October 2, 1941 in Caton, NY, a son of the late James and Edna Davies Brown. He retired as a bricklayer for Robert Blunt Contractors in Big Flats, NY. James was pre-deceased by his brother, Donald; sisters, Marjorie and Marlene; and his daughter, Crystal. Surviving him is his loving wife of 38 years, Evelyn J. Alexander of Erin, NY; son, Shain (Cindy) Brown of Elmira Heights, NY; grandchildren Johnathan, Jenna, Marcus and Michelle; brothers, Robert (Beulah) Brown of Elmira, NY, John (Linda) Brown of Commerce City, CO, and Gerald Brown of Big Flats, NY; sister, Joan (Gerry) Tuttle of Garfield, NJ; "special brother", Bob Blunt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. GEORGE H. BUCHANAN age 84 of Church Road, Erin died on Saturday, July 17, 1999 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Elmira.  His surviving family includes his loving wife of over 60 years, Mae (Little) Buchanan; son and daughter-in-law, Richard 9Verna) Buchanan of Riverview, FL; daughters and sons-in-law, Darlene (Kenneth) Swartwood of Pine Valley, NY, Shirley (Raymond) Urbaniak of Elmira, NY; granddaughters, Barbara Perry and Ida Bailey; grandsons, Douglas, Duane and Daryl Perry, Richard Buchanan Jr. and Steven Urbaniak; 8 great-grandchildren; brothers, Clair (Marion) Buchanan of Elmira Heights, NY, William (Peggy) Buchanan of Lowman, NY; sister-in-law, Marion Buchanan of Horseheads, NY and several nieces and nephews.  Mr. Buchanan was also predeceased by his sisters, Alice, Jessica, Evelyn and brothers, Charles, Elitt, Ransford Jr., Ernest and granddaughter, Irene Mae Buchanan.  George was retired from maintenance at Thatcher Glass where he was employed there for over 25 years.  A devoted husband, father and grandfather.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping and all aspects of auto mechanics.  Friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral home 413 So. SWIFT Stella Mary Age 84, formerly of Wellsburg, NY, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, in Altoona, PA. Stella was born in Elmira Heights, NY, daughter of the late John and Victoria (Genolski) Burczynski. Survivors include daughters, Sally (Earl) Wright of Horseheads, NY, Constance (James) Snow of Altoona, PA, Vicki (Richard) Swift-Naylor of Dundee, NY, and Mary Swift-Jordan of Pine City, NY; sons, John (Judi) Swift of Aurora, CO, Charles (Anne) Swift of Erin, NY, and James (Connie Frisbie) Swift of Elmira, NY; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Burczynski Deyo; brothers, Joseph (Daisy) Burczynski of Millport, NY, and Stanley (Joyce) Burczynski of Elmira, NY; numerous nieces and nephews. Oakley C. BUSH, Sr. age 76, of 4953 Ithaca Rd., Horseheads, May 21, 1987 at his home, where he had been a life-long resident.  Friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 113 S. Main St., Horseheads, Sunday, 7 to 8:30 p.m.  Funeral and Committal Services will be held there Sunday evening at the conclusion of calling hours, 8:30 pm, the Rev. John E. CARSON Helen F. Age 69, of Cheryl St., Horseheads, died very unexpectedly on Wed., Aug. 30, 2006, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Helen was born Jan. 31, 1937 in Erin, NY, the daughter of the late Erastus "Rusty" and Clara (Howard) Carson. Her surviving family includes her daughters and sons, Terry (Betty) Murdock of Newark, OH, Todd Murdock Williamsburg, VA, Tammy (Francis) Altilio of Pine City, NY, Tonya Pannell of Rochester, NY; sister, Joanna Patterson of Erin, NY; brother, George (Grace) Carson of Newfield, NY; dear friend and longtime companion, Gene Bennett of Lowman, NY, with his daughter, Vicki Kendrick; former, son-in-law, Harold Pannell of Rochester, NY; former, daughter-in-law, Karen Murdock of Wilkes Barre, PA; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; several special friends and her devoted neighborhood family on Cheryl St. in Horseheads where she resided for nearly 50 years and who were always there for her. In addition to her parents, Helen was also predeceased by her brother, Harold Carson in 2004; and brother-in-law, George Patterson in 2000. Helen was a longtime figure in the food service industry. She worked at Pierce's 1894 Restaurant in Elmira Heights, Horseheads Holiday Inn and Howard Johnson's. More recently, Helen was an aide at the Courtyards at Bethany Village. Helen was also a member of the Erin Senior Citizen group. She was a lover of all animals including her special feline friend, "Barney." Known as the "Candy Ladies," Helen, with her sister, Joanna Patterson owned and operated the Chocolate Patch in Hanover Square for over 12 years. In addition to the happiness she felt from the love of her grandchildren, her love of family, dedication to her friends, and never-ending smile will be remembered by all who knew her. Ronn Age 59 of Elmira, died Wednesday, September 5, 2001 at home surrounded by his loving family. Ronn was born September 26, 1941 the son of Jeanne Johnson Chevalier and the late Victor E. Chevalier. In addition to his mother, Ronn is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Lynch Chevalier; children, Ronni Porcaro of Hornell with husband Rick and children Joe, Amy and Katie; Michael Chevalier of Elmira with children Brianne and Kayla; Neil Chevalier of Hornell with wife Lisa and children Derek and Nicole; Van Chevalier of Rochester NY; Michael Tierney of Arkport NY with wife Kelli and children Alisha, Mikey and Corrine; Kimberly Tierney of Portsmouth VA; sister Sue Harris of Elmira with husband Walt; special friends, John and Becky Bouille of Elmira; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Eva Rosekrans, 53, of North Rose, Wayne County, Saturday, Oct. 27, 1951, after an illness of a few months.  Survived by husband, the Rev. Clyde A. Rosekrans; daughter, Mrs. Helen Messing of Pine City, N. Y.; sons, Philip and Neil Rosekrans of North Rose; four grandchildren; mother, Mrs. Ada Cornelius; sisters, Mrs. Eynor Scofield, Mrs. Murray Weysten; aunt, Mrs. Lydia Hall, all of Poughkeepsie.  Mrs. Rosekrans was pastor of the Brown Memorial Church, Syracuse, before assuming the North Rose charge in June 1951.  Funeral will be held at 10:30 a. m. MARY LOU (CORNELL) LANGEBARTEL age 67 of 129 Canterbury Dr., Biloxi, Miss., formerly of Erin, Sunday, October 10, 1982 after an extended illness.  Friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads, Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.  Funeral services will be held in the Erin United Methodist Church on Thursday at 3 p.m.  The Rev. Robert J. Clark will officiate.  Interment Scotchtown Cemetery, Erin.  She is survived by her husband, Edward Paul Langebartel (Col. USAF Ret.), daughter, Miss Nancy K. RK, Sr. Age 55, of Erin, NY, passed away at home Wednesday, March 12, 2003. RK was born on June 2, 1947 in Elmira, son of Adella (Chrysler) Cornett and the late Lonard Cornett, Sr. He was employed at Elmira Stamping as a materials handler. His hobbies included playing poker, pitching horseshoes and enjoying the outdoors. CRANDALL Edward H. Age 81, of Wayne, NY, died on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at the Bath VA Medical Center. He was born on July 9, 1925 in Hornell, NY to the late Norman C. and Dorothy J. (VanAtta) Crandall. Edward was predeceased by his son, Jerry Crandall in 1960. Survivors include his wife, Betty (Davis) Crandall of Wayne, NY; son, Larry Crandall of Hamlin, NY; daughter, Darlene (Emery) Kelly of Dundee, NY; grandchildren, Shaun Gage of Dundee, and Shane Gage of Penn Yan, NY; great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Ryan Gage, both of Dundee, NY. Edward proudly served our Country in the Army during WWII. He was a former member of the American Legion Post #154 in Elmira Heights and a current member of the American Legion Post #1208 in Wayne, NY. There will be no prior services. ALBERT E. ENNIS, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Asher Ennis of Erin died Feb. 14, 1928 age ten days.  The funeral was held Friday at 2 p.m. at the family home.  The Rev. N. L. Campbell officiated.  Burial was in the Scotchtown Cemetery at Erin.  –Elmira Star-Gazette 2/21/1928

FAIRBANKS
Edward "Eddie" Age 74, of Millerton, PA. He was born August 4, 1930 in Elizabeth, NJ, son of the late Theodore and Carrie (Campbell) Fairbanks and died Tuesday, September 21, 2004, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was predeceased by his first wife, Norene Fairbanks in 1988; four brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Annie; children, Steven, Kathy, Tyrone, Shawn and Eric; nine grandchildren; sister, Janice Anders; sister-in-law, Phyllis Fairbanks; along with several nieces and nephews. Eddie was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 901 and the American Legion Post 443 both in Elmira and was formerly employed with Schweizer Aircraft. FLINKMAN Carolyn S.
Age 64, of Erin, died on Tues., Oct. 16, 2007. She was born Nov. 10, 1942 in Elmira, NY, the daughter of George and Doris (Roe) Wood. She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 28 years, Robert Flinkman; sons, Brett (Karen) Cobb of Lompoc, CA; Scott (Aislinn) Kelly of Corning, NY, William (Belle) Davis Jr. also of Corning, NY; special daughter, Sherri Thompson of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Corey Thompson, Connor and Kate Cobb, Evan and Molly Cobb; brother, Donald Wood of West Virginia. She is also survived by special friends, Norma Bennett and Linda Howard. Carolyn was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Spencer, NY, active with the Spencer Picnic Youth Outreach, and President of the Council of Church at St. Paul's. She was a graduate of South Side High School, Class of 1960, and was the Deli and Bakery Manager at the Spencer Big M. A special lady, Carolyn left her mark on all those people she met. GEORGE James L.
Age 27 of Elmira, NY, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at his home. James was born on January 28, 1980 in Elmira, son of Robert George and Linda Staples. James was a coach for the CVSA for several years. He loved the Dallas Cowboys and WWE Wrestling. James will be deeply missed by those that knew him. GORTON Naomi D. ROUPP, 63, of Elmira, NY died December 11, 1998 at home.  She was born March 3, 1935 to the late Clifford L. and Laurie A. (Bates) Gorton.  Naomi was a member of the Gillett Baptist Church in Gillett, PA.  She worked and retired after many years with Artistic Greetings Co.  Survivors include:  daughters, Laura and Jame Ruckle of Horseheads, NY, Reene VanZile of Elmira, Sharon Roupp of OR; son, Terry and Tammy Roupp of Wellsburg; a stepson, Terrance and Jackie Roupp of Beaver Dams, NY; nine grandchildren and step-grandchildren; a brother and two sisters; special friend Jim McConnell of Horseheads.  Naomi was predeceased by her husband, Clayton H. Mrs. Matejka was born July 5th, 1924 in Elmira, NY, the daughter of the late Leland and Electa (Winters) Grimes. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles "Gus" Matejka in 1986. She was beloved mother of Karen (Jerome) O'Neil of Puyallup, WA, Barbara A. Matejka (fiance, Jack Chlopecki) of Altamont, NY, James (Beth) Matejka of Voorheesville, NY, Duane (Marco Jo) Matejka of Buckingham, PA, Pam (Thomas) Waite of Lowman, NY, and Valerie "Teak" Matejka of Southport, NY; and her 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Wilma Fisher of Trumansburg, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Lillian M. Age 86 of Horseheads, NY died on Saturday August 6, 2005 at Elcor Health Services. Mrs. Gans was born on July 31, 1919 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Leland and Electa Palmer Grimes. She was a receptionist at Bethany Retirement Center in Horseheads, NY and worked for Seaman's Institute for Merchant Sailors. Lily had a green thumb and loved to work with flowers. She enjoyed crocheting and making plastic canvas crafts. Lily was preceded in death by her sister, Marie Michalak. He was also an ROTC graduate of Syracuse Univ. in 1953. He was retired from Gannett News as the V.P. of Advertising working from the NYC office and also a veteran of the US Air Force. Age 96 of Breesport, NY, Sunday, December 26, 1999 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. His family includes his loving wife of 54 years, Belle (Squires) Hollenbeck; daughters Dorothy Harris of Youngstown, Oh, Alice Kelsey of Elmira, NY, Frances Riker of Elmira, NY & Roxanna Erskine of Breesport, NY; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren & several nieces & nephews. In his early years, Roy worked for the railroad. Later, during his nearly 50-year tenure with the State, Roy worked for the State Department of Public Works & Highway Department. Early on he was first to work with the road patrol in the county. Towards his retirement in the 60’s, Roy was Road Superintendent for the State Highway Department out of Horseheads. He was a member of the Breesport Southern Light Lodge #725 F. & A.M. Roy was also an avid hunter & gardener who also enjoyed fishing & trapping. Robert E. Age 77 of Horseheads, NY, died on Saturday, February 11, 2006. He was born October 11, 1928 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Austin L. and F. Irene (Housnick) Ingersoll. Bob received an Honorable Discharge after serving four years in the US Navy and was a correctional officer for 31 years with the NYS Department of Correctional Services. He was also a former Town Justice in the Town of Veteran. His greatest love and joy in life was encouraging and observing the many academic, professional, social, religious and athletic achievements of each of the members of his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice M. (Rodabaugh) Ingersoll; sons, Dr. Dale K. (Paula) Ingersoll, Dr. Barton R. (Maryruth) Ingersoll; grandsons, Rev. Troy A. (Jennifer) Ingersoll, Jay A. (Suzanne) Ingersoll, Lucas B. Ingersoll; granddaughter, Hilary A. Ingersoll; and great-grandchildren, Seth and Ava Ingersoll. Bob was awarded a BS Degree Magna Cum Laude and an MS Degree from Elmira College. He was proud of being a member of the 1946 graduating class of Odessa-Montour Central School. He was a 55-year life member of the Watkins Glen BPOE 1546. Bob pitched horseshoes in World Tournaments in Spearfish, SD, Perry, GA, Kitchner, Ontario, Canada, and won a World Class Championship in Syracuse, NY. He was in numerous NHPA Tournaments in New York State, winning a NYS Class Championship in horseshoes and represented NYS in the Nationals in Baton Rouge, LA. Bob had other successful tournaments in Florida, North Carolina, South Dakota, Pennsylvania, North Dakota and Wyoming. It was Bob's wish that there be no services held. Age 69, and longtime resident of Sullivanville, went to be with his Lord after a brief illness Wed. Jan. 30, 2008. He was a devoted member of Sullivanville United Methodist Church, Lay Speaker and Lay Member to the UMC Conference, and Choir member. He taught adult Sunday School and was also a member of Chemung County Council of Churches. Frank was instrumental in the development of the fellowship hall and stairwell to the upper room of the church. He was an avid race car enthusiast who also enjoyed the outdoors including hunting and fishing. Frank was retired as a project engineer/furnace engineer with Corning Inc. in 1995 where he also continued to consult with them. Frank was devoted to his faith and devoted to his family. KNIGHT - MRS. DOLLIE K. BENNETT The death of Mrs. Dollie Knight Bennett occurred at the home of her son Floyd Scott Knight 509 West Hudson Street, after several weeks’ illness, Friday, June 7th. The decedent spent her girlhood in Erin, New York, where she was born. After reaching young womanhood she went to Michigan to reside with a sister and while there she was married to Walter Knight of that state. Mr. Knight died early in their married life, leaving his widow with four sons, all of whom have now reached manhood. They are Wallace, Ray and Floyd Knight of this city and Walter of Massachusetts. Later in life she married William Bennett of Erin. Mrs. Bennett was a consistent Christian and bore her suffering with great fortitude. The funeral services were held from the Erin Methodist Episcopal Church, Sunday at 2 p.m., the Rev. W. T. Fitzgerald officiating. The church choir sang three favorite hymns of the decedent. KREJCAR - TAYLOR, Virginia
Age 90, of Erin, NY, died on Saturday, August 9, 2008, in Hornell, NY. Mrs. Taylor was born in Petersburg, VA, on July 31, 1918, the daughter of the late Charles and Clara Root Krejcar. She loved traveling, making jewelry, canning, gardening and was a talented seamstress. Mrs. Taylor owned Taylor's Christmas Tree Farm in Erin, NY; she taught classes at Home extension and worked for Remington Rand during WWII. Age 75, Prescott Ave., died at home surrounded by her family on Oct. 4, 2008. LYON James W. "small grandpa" Age 79, of Breesport, died Thursday, June 1, 2006. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances (Wheaton) Lyon in 1989. His surviving family includes his children, James (Darlene) Lyon Jr. of Horseheads, Sandra (William) McCormick of Lowman, Fred Lyon of Montour Falls, Michael Lyon of Elmira Heights, Sara (Gary) Harvey of Horseheads, Frances (Michael) Strong of Breesport with whom he resided, Carol (John) Combs of Riverview, FL; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Jim was devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a retired Assembler with Ingersoll Rand in Corning and a longtime resident of Erin and Breesport. He was also a veteran WWII serving in the US Navy, member of the American Legion Post #601 in Muncy Valley, PA. As an avid outdoorsman, he was also a past member of the Chemung Co. MACBLANE James M.
Age 86 of Erin, NY died on Thursday September 27, 2007. He was born in Elmira, NY on April 10, 1921 the son of the late James M. and Catherine Pavlok MacBlane Sr. Mr. MacBlane was a WWII Veteran serving his country with the U.S. Navy. He was a Tool and Dye engineer for Hardinge Brothers in Elmira, NY. James was a member of the Elmira Heights Legion. One of his passions was tending to his gardens he loved flowers and planting. Age 79, of Elmira, NY. He was born May 24, 1929 in Erin, NY, son of the late Salvadore and Pearl (Wood) Mallacoccio and passed away Monday, February 9, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond Douglas, Edward and Eugene Mallacoccio; sisters, Regina Trabbold and Jeanne Dillon. RODABAUGH, Frances E. Age 91 died on Tuesday May 21, 2002. Mrs. Rodabaugh was born November 13, 1910 in Groton, NY the daughter of the late Jerry and Elva Sears Ostrander. She married her husband, George Washington Rodabaugh, on September 15, 1932 and he pre-deceased her on February 4, 1977. Mrs. Rodabaugh was also pre-deceased by her brothers George Ostrander and Ralph Ostrander as well as her sister Clara Dense. Frances was a member of The Sullivanville United Methodist Church for many years. Mrs. Rodabaugh was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished the time spent with her family. OTTEN   Benjamin J. Age 63 of Elmira NY died Friday, December 16, 2005 unexpectedly at home. Ben, son of the late Charles R. and Alice (Carson) Otten was born in Covington KY on November 7, 1942. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Julia Rosekrans Otten; son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin A. and Jessica S. Otten of Berkley CA with their infant daughter Charlotte Laurel; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Karen Otten of Cincinnati OH, Fred and Frances Otten of Taylor MI, Albert and Sarah Otten of Charlotte NC; several nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and good friends. Ben was predeceased by brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Margaret Otten. He was a graduate of Wilmington College in Wilmington OH. While at college Ben met Julia and they were married at the college chapel on August 22, 1965. He taught school in Defiance OH and worked for Defiance College before moving to Elmira. Ben retired this past September as the Director of Business Operations after 32 years of service with Elmira College. He was currently working part time at JC Penney. Ben has a long association with scouting in the Elmira area. He was cub master of Cub Scout Pack 101 and an assistant scout master of Boy Scout Troop 101. Ben served on the former Sullivan Trail Boy Scout Council in various capacities. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. PADEN –KATHLEENE (KITTY) PADEN SCHANBACHER age 81, of Marsh Road, Erin, NY, died on Saturday, June 8, 2002.  Kathleen was born in Schenectady, NY on July 1, 1920.  Kitty was an accomplished seamstress, a former 4-H leader, an Erin Fire Dept. Aux. Member, and an Erin Town Historian for many years.  She was also an avid painter, and belonged to the Horseheads Art Guild as well as running painting classes for Senior Citizens.  She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Merton A. Schanbacher; son and daughter-in-law, William and Marlene Schanbacher, and daughter Val Ann Schanbacher; two grandchildren, Troy (Kathy) Schanbacher and Adam (Michelle) Schanbacher; and two great-grandchildren, Billy and Ben Schanbacher.  She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Mrs. Schanbacher requested that there be no calling hours.  There will be a gravesite service at Scotchtown Cemetery in Erin, NY, with Rev. PALMER Janet A. Erin, NY Janet A. Palmer died March 13, 2006 at Tioga Nursing Home, Waverly, NY. Janet was born November 9th, 1930 in Addison, NY. She was the daughter of Garfield F. Space and Mae (Towsley) Space of Addison. Janet valued her family and was a thoughtful, generous person. She wrote poetry, painted, embroidered, quilted, and crocheted and created beautiful mementoes for loved ones. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant at the age of 55. Janet always thought of others before herself. Her husband, Lew Palmer, predeceased her on January 17th, 1986. Janet is survived by two daughters, Norma Dorman and husband, Ralph, of Erin, Ann Stratton of Lockwood; and one son, Furman G. Palmer and wife, Jodi Mc Kibben Palmer, of Erin, NY; and six grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher Dorman, Melissa Stratton, Tyler Gable, Shawn and Lee Palmer. Janet was a past member of Erin Fire Department's Ladies Auxiliary and a past 4-H leader at the Chemung Cooperative Extension. She attended Breesport Baptist Church. PARK Wilford M. "Parkie" Age 79, of Horseheads on Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center with his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy (Beuter) Park at his side. Mr. Park is also survived by his daughters and son, Jeanette (Rudy) Cunningham of Elmira, Cindy (Joe) Rich of Elmira, and Tim Park of White Deer, PA; his grandchildren, Rich Thompson, Ryan & Jenelle Park,Mike Burt, Joe & Allison Rich, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and numerous other special family members. Born November 4, 1922, son to the late Manley & Verna (Hubbard) Park, in Erin, NY, Parkie had been a member of Teamster Local 529, retiring in 1976. Dorthea Formerly of South Avenue Age 93, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Sunday, May 29, 2005, peacefully at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center Elmira, NY. She was born December 1, 1911 in Erin, NY, the daughter of the late Wilson C. and Eliza E. (Goldsmith) Rosekrans. Her beloved husband, Stanley Peet; three sisters and two brothers also predeceased Dorthea. She is survived by her loving sons, William (Glenora) Peet of Pine City, NY, Lyle Peet of Elmira, NY; along with seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and her extended church family. Dorthea was formerly employed by St. Joseph's Hospital and worked faithfully in housekeeping for several dedicated years. She was the oldest member of the Elmira Christian Center where she loved to worship her Lord. Throughout her entire life she enjoyed cooking for her family and others. We will all miss those wonderful pies she baked for various occasions. Eunice Rosekrans 81, formerly of Vestal, NY, died in Pinson, AL, September 27. She was predeceased by her husband, William H. Stamm; and her grandson, John Gregory Raley. She is survived by her son, William and wife, Sandra, and daughter, Mary, Birmingham, AL; daughter, Carol and husband, Patrick Raley, and daughter, Christina, Winter Park, FL; son, Edward and wife, Jeri, and daughter, Anna, Lexington, KY. She was born July 8, 1925 in Erin, NY, daughter of Gordon and Myrtle Rosekrans. She graduated from Elmira College in 1946. Eunice was a recognized expert on the cheese industry in New York, and was the author of "The History of Cheese Making in New York State," published in 1991, and lectured at many cheese industry conventions. She served several terms as president of the Vestal Historical Society of Vestal, New York, and was also a member of the Women's National Book Association. She was a member of Pinson United Methodist Church in Pinson, Alabama. Services are to be held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, Alabama, on Sunday, October 1, with a visitation at 2:00 p.m., and a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 7, at Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home in Endicott, New York, with a visitation at 10:00 a.m., and a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Scotchtown Cemetery in Erin, New York immediately following the service. ROSEKRANS  Leland V. Retiree General Electric Age 83 of Elmira, NY died Friday, June 30, 2000 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He is survived by his loving wife: Mildred I. Rosekrans; daughter: Kim Rosekrans of Lowman, NY, Shari (Ronald) Huff of Weslaco, TX; sister: Dorothea Peet of Elmira, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his three sisters and a brother. Leland was an active  member of The Seventh Day Adventist Church. He served his country in the United States Army in World War II and he retired from the General Electric Company after 37 years of service. Although unable to do so in recent years,  prior to his illness, Leland enjoyed the outdoors and kept himself busy with caring  for his vegetable garden. Merton A. Age 89 of 760 Marsh Road Erin, NY died on Tuesday December 7, 2004 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Merton was born October 2, 1915 in Charleston Township, Tioga County, PA the son of the late Norman and Edith Passmore Schanbacher. Mr. Schanbacher married his wife, Kathleen "Kitty" Paden Schanbacher, who pre-deceased him on June 8, 2002. He was also pre-deceased by his parents and his brother, Daniel W. Schanbacher who died on March 21, 2001. Mr. Schanbacher was a veteran of WW II serving his country with The U.S. Navy. Merton was a long-time farmer and served as the Town of Erin Supervisor and the sexton of Scotchtown Cemetery in Erin, NY for many years. He was a founding member of The Erin Volunteer Fire Dept. and donated the land for the Fire Station. Merton was an active member and Past President of The Erin Historical Society and a member of The Senior Citizens. Mr. Schanbacher is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: William & Marlene Schanbacher of Lockwood, NY and his daughter: Val Ann Schanbacher of Erin, NY; two grandchildren: Troy (Kathy) Schanbacher and Adam (Michelle) Schanbacher; two great grandchildren: Billy and Ben Schanbacher; sisters and brother-in-law: Ruth Batley of Elmira, NY and Nola & Frank Eiser of Huntsville, Alabama; sister-in-law: Nellie P. Age 98 of 330 Noble Street Elmira, New York died on Wednesday May 9, 2007. Mr. Schwab was born on August 14, 1908 in Germania, PA a twin son of the late Godfred and Elizabeth Stahli Schwab. He was also pre-deceased by several brothers and sisters including his twin brother Clyde Schwab who died on May 22, 2002. Elmer was a veteran of WW II serving his country with the US Army. He married his wife Catherine Crooker Schwab on September 1, 1956 and they would have celebrated their 51st Wedding Anniversary on September 1, 2007. SHERMAN - Rodabaugh, Marion Julia Age 89 of Horseheads, NY died on Tuesday August 28, 2001 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Elmira, NY.  Mrs. Rodabaugh was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  Marion was an active life member of the Sullivanville United Methodist Church and member of the WSCS.  She taught Sunday School for several years.  Marion was born July 7, 1912 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Theodore M. and Mabel E. Smith Sherman and was the foster daughter of the late Homer F. Foster.  As a young girl she lived at the Crane farm on East Hill in Elmira where her parents were tenant farmers for Mrs. Crane.  She had many fond memories of those times on the Crane farm.  Her parents Mabel and Homer Foster operated a successful dairy farm on the Foster/Vargo Road for many years.  Marion married her husband, Darrell L. Rodabaugh, on January 17, 1931 and they raised a family of seven children.  Mr. and Mrs. Rodabaugh took in Fresh Air kids from New York City during the Summer months in years past.  Mrs. Rodabaugh was predeceased by her husband Darrell L. Rodabaugh on April 14, 1976. SMITH John Joseph  "Pop"
Age 76 of Erin, NY formerly of Lowman, NY died on Friday January 4, 2008. He was born on January 16, 1931 in Elmira, NY the son of the late Howard and Rose Marie Driscoll Smith. John married his wife Janet Louise Scrivens Smith on April 23, 1953 and were married for 47 years. John was retired from the Chemung County Highway Department. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict on board the U.S.S. Okanogan. He was proud to say he traveled around the world and through the Panama Canal during his time in the Navy. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge 62 and the Clarence R. Oliver American Legion Post. He was pre-deceased by his wife Janet Louise Smith on November 23, 2000; brothers: Howard Smith and William Smith and his son-in-law: James Riker. Belle E. (Squires) Age 83, of Church St., Breesport, died Monday, Aug. 14, 2006, at home surrounded by her loving family. Belle was born in Erin, NY, March 25, 1923, the daughter of the late Arthur and Olive (Burlingame) Squires. Mrs. Hollenbeck was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was also affectionately known as "Mom," "Aunt Belle" and "Grandma" to the many children she loved and cared for. She was an active member of the Order of Eastern Star Southern Light Chapter for over 35 years. Mrs. Hollenbeck was predeceased by her husband, Roy in 1999; brothers, Garfield Squires, Levi Squires; sisters, Alberta Linderberry, Alma Bennett and Ruth Hornbeck. Age 68, of Himrod, NY, formerly of Corning, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, unexpectedly at home. He retired from Corning Incorporated as an Engineering Fellow in 1998. She was born on July 7, 1915 in Bassett, NE the daughter of the late Lawrence Lincoln and Lillie Ruth Kennedy Taylor. Mrs. Howard was a Nurse's Aide at the Schuyler Hospital in Montour Falls, NY. She loved and trained dogs for several years. She was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed going to Elmira Pioneers games. She was pre-deceased by her sisters and brothers: Ellen Taylor, Gladys Taylor, Theola Wood, Elmer Taylor, Gerald Taylor, son-in-law: Harry E. Harvey Jr. on February 2, 2000. JAMES NEWMAN WATERS SR., 68, of Sheshequin Twp., was called home to dwell with his Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004. He was born on Dec. 3, 1935 in Elmira, N.Y., a son of the late Joseph Patrick and Madeline R. (Newman) Waters. Jim, as he was affectionately known by his family and many friends, attended school in Elmira and was a retired employee of Leprino's Foods of Horseheads. On Nov. 30, 1985, he married his best friend, Sharon L. Shoemaker. Jim was a devoted Christian and member of the Abide in the Vine Fellowship Church, Owego, where he served as Elder. Jim lived each day to the fullest and each day would start with scripture. For many years, Jim and Sharon owned and operated the Montour Motel in Montour Falls. He enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing, camping and being surrounded by his loving family.  Jim is survived by his wife Sharon L. Waters, his children: James and his wife Theresa Waters, Jr., Elmira Heights, N.Y.; Pastor Mark and his wife Joy Waters of Sayre; Shawn Waters of Horseheads, N.Y.;  his step children: Sheri and her husband Mark Braniff of Sandyhook, VA; Dena and her husband Sam Carrigan of Montour Falls, N.Y.; Sgt. Martha was born April 9th, 1908 in North Chemung, NY, the daughter to the late Mark and Coral (Rugur) Hanville. Martha was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Wilmot in 1982; a son, Thomas "Tip" Wilmot in 1980; sister, Grace Griewisch in 1998; grandson, Donald Bowers also in 1998. Her surviving family includes her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Richard Jones of Sun City, AZ, with whom she had resided for nearly 22 years, Mark (Barbara) Wilmot of Millport, NY; grandchildren, Mark (Denise) Wilmot of Horseheads, NY, David (Nancy Webb) Bowers of Corning, NY, Lisa Bowers of Elmira, NY, Tom (Tina) Bowers of Dundee, NY, Andy Wilmot of Forestville, NY, Shawn (Mindy) Wilmot of Dunkirk, NY, Jan Clark of Forestville, NY, Nan (Marty) Pollard of Newfield, NY; 17 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Martha had many diversified interests: traveling, dancing, antiquing, playing cards, music, cooking, her church, and also as an avid bird watcher, her friends and most importantly her family. WOOD  Lawrence F. Jr. "Larry" "Woody"
Age 49, of Sand Bank Rd., Erin, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Sat., June 6, 2009. Larry was born April 30, 1960, the son of Lawrence and Jean (Simmons) Wood Sr. In addition to his parents, Jean and Larry Wood Sr.; Larry is also survived by his brother, John (Kellie) Wood of Erin, NY; nephew, Shawn Wood; aunts, Eunice Beach of Erin, NY, Rose Oldroyd of North Fort Myers, FL, Nancy Wells of Tacoma, WA, Alice Smith of Stanley, NC; many cousins, co-workers, and several close and caring friends including, Larry and Sherry Park with their daughter, Riley Jane Park of Breesport, NY, Jim Jewett of Erin, NY. He was also predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Henry and Ada Simmons; paternal grandparents, Percy and Theola Wood. Woody was a graduate of Horseheads High School, Class of 1978. Larry was employed at the GST Tire, the former Twin Tier Tire as their alignment specialist. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds, Miami Dolphins, and NY Rangers Fan. He also enjoyed Elmira College hockey; was a member of their College Booster Club, enjoyed racing at Watkins Glen, hunting, fishing and the company of his family and many friends. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads, NY on Thursday, June 11, 2009, from 2-4:00 p.m. and again from 6-8:00 p.m. His service will be celebrated at the funeral home on Friday at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow in Scotchtown Cemetery in Erin, NY. ? BAILEY Helen E. Age 96 of Brooksville, FL went home to be with her Lord on Friday September 15, 2006 at the Hernando Pasco Hospice Care Unit, Brooksville, FL. She moved to Florida from Wellsburg, NY several years ago. She was predeceased by her husband, Lynden "Stub" Bailey, along with her sons, Donald Wilson and Edward Draucker; a daughter, Marjoria Millard and a step daughter, Margeae Kieger. Surviving is her loving family, daughters, Sarah Jordan, Waynesboro, PA; Alice & Ted Smith, Lusby, MD; four stepsons, Edgar & Beverly Bailey, North Kingsville, OH; Fred & Carol Bailey Spring Hill, FL; Duane & Lois Bailey, Columbus, IN; Charles & Pat Bailey, Mantua, OH; 28 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Helen retired from Thatcher Glass in Elmira, NY. Family and friends will be received at the Elmira Wesleyan Church, 1100 S. Main St. Elmira on Friday September 22, 2006 from 10 – 11 a.m. Funeral services will follow in the church at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Gary Mammarello and the Reverend Edward Crandall officiating.
