cemetery, as they are presented here, is like reading the multi-generational
history of a community. These people were the local populace at a particular
time. The people buried here knew each other, were neighbors, relatives
and school mates. They attended church together and engaged in "trade"
or business.
All people are listed in alphabetic order by surname at BIRTH. Women identified by a married alias only and for whom a birth surname can not be identified, are listed on the last page for the cemetery's obituaries. DAILEY Frank H. Age 79, of Horseheads, NY, died Saturday, September 17, 2005, very unexpectedly at home. Private graveside services, with full military honors, were held Saturday, October 8, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads. Donations in his memory may be directed to Horseheads Town and Country Fire Department, 130 Gardner Road, Horseheads, NY 14845.
DAILEY - TIFFT Thelma M. (Jones) Age 85, of Watkins Rd., Pine Valley, died Thursday, April 28, 2005, while residing and receiving care from the Seneca View Nursing Facility Montour Falls, NY. Her surviving family includes her husband, Francis Tifft with whom she recently celebrated 32 years together two days ago, Wednesday, April 27, 2005. Also surviving are her daughters, Patricia (William) Brown of Elmira, NY, Judy Rose Roberts of Hampton, VA, Dorothy Phelps of Elmira Heights, NY; stepson, Lawrence Tifft of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Clyde Grover Oklahoma City, OK, Gregory Grover of New Milford, PA, Steven Tyler of Pine Valley, NY, Tammy Toupin of Hampton, VA, Kimberly Jones, Michelle Michalko, both of Elmira, NY, Lynne Hulslander of Horseheads, NY, Chad Tifft of Las Vegas, NV; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Predeceasing were her first husband, Stanley W. Jones in 1972; grandson, Jeffrey Dean Grover; sisters, Alverta Comfort, Beatrice Kettyle, Bernice Satterlee, and Shirley Smith; and stepdaughter, Virginia Simpson. She was born Tuesday January 20, 1920 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Walter and Pearl Dailey. In her early adult life she lovingly raising her children, cared for her family, her home and husband. After her children grew, she returned back to cosmetology school and worked as a hair stylist in the area for many years. In her golden years she retired to spend more time with her loving husband. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home on Sunday, May 1, 2005, from 4-6:00 p.m. her service will follow there at 6:00 p.m. Interment to take place in Maple Grove Cemetery on Monday.
GEORGE W. DALIA SR.
George W. Dalia Sr., 75, of Horseheads, NY died May 9, 1991 at
his home. He was a former school board director for Troy Area School District.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Freda Rice Dalia; daughter, Mrs.
Jim (Edith) Robinson of Brooktondale, NY; sons and daughters-in-law, George
W. Jr. and Pat Dalia of Newton, NC, Ron and Rev. Dalia of Maryville, TN,
Don and Joan Dalia of Towanda; 13 grandchildren; three sisters; one brother;
several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held May 13 at the Ballard
and Lindgren Funeral Home in Elmira Heights with the Rev. Michael Clayton
officiating and burial to be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads with full
military honors. Memorial gifts may be made to the Oakwood Methodist Church,

DALRYMPLE Allan T. of Bath Age 86, of Ash Street, died Sunday, October 23, 2005, at his home. He was born September 25, 1919 in Elmira, NY to Daniel and Pearl Ellison Dalrymple. Allan was a retired Tool Maker/Machinist for Corning, Inc., Corning, NY. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge #168, Painted Post, NY and the Elks Lodge #1547, Bath, NY and was a past volunteer through RSVP to the Steuben County Health Care Facility with over 1,000 hours. He was an avid fisherman especially on Keuka Lake, and he loved any outdoor work. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Annabelle Look Dalrymple; one daughter, Carol (Jay) Voorhees of Painted Post, NY; two grandchildren, Abigail Voorhees of Annapolis, Maryland, and Aaron Voorhees attending SUNY Maritime College, NYC; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by one son, Allan T. Dalrymple, Jr. Friends may call at Seager-Jones Funeral Home, 4 E. Washington St., Bath, NY on Thursday, October 27th, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with the funeral service to immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Clifford Whitehead officiating. An Elks service will be held at 6:00 p.m. and a Masonic Service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, NY. DANKS -? – MRS. HERBERT PHILLIPS of North Chemung died at the home of her brother, Charles Danks of 258 West Eleventh Street, Elmira Heights, Wednesday (July23, 1930) at 7:45 p.m. age 38 years. She is survived by her husband; one son, Ralph Miller; three stepsons, James, Herbert, Jr. and Harold Phillips; one sister, Mrs. A. E. Crandall of Millport; one brother, Charles Danks of Elmira Heights. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and the W.C.T.U. of North Chemung. The funeral will be held at the M.E. DANN James R.
Age 82, of Maryville, TN and formerly a longtime resident of the area
died Dec. 12, 2009 after a difficult struggle with Throat and Neck
Cancer. Jim was born in Horseheads to Stanley and Phoebe (Crane) Dann.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and John Smolik
of Loudon, TN; grandson, Jeff, of New Orleans, LA; sister, Barbara (John)
Horton Uszenski of Elmira, NY; brother-in-law, John Wiseman Somerville,
SC; nieces, Dawn (Charles) Wiseman Adams of Summerville, SC, Pamela (Jeffery)
Howard of Alabama; and nephews, Timothy (Sue) Horton, Jay (Terri) Horton
and Daniel (Christine) Horton, all of Elmira, NY and John (Debbie) Wiseman
II of West Palm Beach, Florida, and their children; former spouse, Marjorie
Robbins Dann Miller, extended family members and many friends. He was always
a man that believed strongly in family ties. Jim was a graduate of Horseheads
High School class of 1945. He was a local farmer who also owned and operated
Dann's Equipment Company at 412 Level Acres Dr. in Horseheads from 1960
until moving to Wilmington, NC in 1979. Late in 2000, Jim relocated to
Maryville, TN to be near his daughter's family and grandson. Jim was a
member of the State Grange, Veteran Grange, an avid 4-Her and 4-H leader.
He taught at Chemung, Tioga, Tompkins BOCES programs. Though Jim "retired"
many times, he could not quit working and helping others. Most recently,
he worked for Adesa Auction in Lenoir City, TN until throat and neck cancer
robbed him of his strength this last spring. Family and friends are invited
to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads, on Thursday
from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family and friends
are further invited to call at the First Presbyterian Church, 1054 West
Clinton St., Elmira, on Friday from 12:00 noon-1:00 p.m. His service will
follow there in First Presbyterian Church in Elmira, NY, on Friday at 1:00
p.m., the Rev. Dr. Betsy R. Crimmins will officiate. His interment will
follow the funeral service in Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads. Regrettably,
Jim was predeceased by his sister, Joyce Dann Wiseman on September 14th,
2009 from complications of a stroke. Also Jim's step brothers, Paul, Delos
and Ralph have predeceased him; as well as his brother-in-law, Glen Horton.

DANN –MARJORIE VANDINE, 92 of Canton, Pa. died at home on Wednesday morning, May 9, 2007. Born in Canton Township on March 8, 1915, Marjorie was a daughter of the late Arthur B. and Margaret (English) Dann. She was a 1932 graduate of Canton High School. On Oct. 18, 1958, Marjorie married E. Dow VanDine in Elmira, N.Y. They were blessed with more than 22 years together before his passing in 1981. In earlier years Marjorie was employed as an executive house keeper at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, N.Y. Following her marriage she worked as a housekeeper in Rochester, N.Y., until retiring in 1972. She and Dow then lived in Secretary, Md., for several years. Marjorie was of the Episcopal faith. She enjoyed sailing and playing cards, especially bridge. Surviving are her daughter, Stephanie (Delon) Peck of Canton; two daughters-in-law, Ann Landers of Florida and Sue Keep of California; six grandchildren, Lisa White of Blossburg, Debra Rockwell of Troy, Bill Lewis and Lee Lewis, both of Florida, Amy Lewis of California and Gary Lewis of Las Vegas; six great-grandchildren, Lacey Christley, Willis Rockwell, and Jonathan, Kaylee, Shelby and Gary Lewis; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Dow, she was predeceased by three sons, Art Lewis, in 1968; Lynn Lewis, in 1977; D. Gary Lewis, in 1983; and a sister, Betty Wakefield, in 2004. Rev. Mary Kisner will officiate a memorial service in celebration of Marjorie's life at 10 a.m., May 12 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Troy. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, N.Y. DANN - WILCOX Ruth M.
Age 95, of Waverly and formerly of Sing Sing Rd., Horseheads, died
Friday July 4, 2008. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald in 1977.
She is survived by her sons, Arthur (Shirley) Wilcox of Nichols, NY, Norman
(Kathy) Wilcox of Elmira, NY; five grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her sisters,
Phoebe Doane and Mantie Carner. Ruth was born June 14, 1913 in Elmira,
NY, the daughter to the late Richard and Rebecca (Metzger) Dann. She was
a lady through and through. She was fond of the arts, an avid reader and
lover of life's simple treasure. Family and friends are invited to call
at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Main St., Horseheads, on Wed., July
9, 2008, from 4-7:00 p.m. Her service will be celebrated in the funeral
home on Thurs. at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. William Wells officiating. Interment
will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. A special thanks to the health care
providers of Elderwood Assisted Living at Tioga for their care of our mother.

JAMES MANLEY DARROW
James Manley Darrow, 79, of Horseheads, NY died Tuesday, August
20, 1991. Mr. Darrow was a retired construction worker. He is survived
by sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Lillian York of Elmira, NY and
Robert and Hazel Darrow of Gillett, PA; daughters and sons-in-law, Marlene
and Richard Whitson of Wellsburg, Merub Files of Horseheads, Judy and Duane
Wetzel of Troy, PA; 18 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; sister,
Elsie Phinney of Canton, PA; brother, Donald Darrow of Elmira; several
nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Rachel in 1988
and daughter, Emma Jeanette Darrow in 1981. Funeral services were held
August 22 at the Don Kalec Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Rockwell officiating

DAVIS - WORDEN
Jean D. Age 74, of Castleton, NY, died Sunday, August 21, 2005, at
St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY. She was born October 15, 1930 in Auburn,
NY, the daughter of Herman and Mary Rose Davis. Jean was well known for
her work on genealogy in New York State and her indexing of historical
records for the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society and the
Albany New York State Library. She was author and publisher of over 20
books on New York State Church records. Jean was member of the General
Peter Gansevoort Chapter of the DAR in Albany, NY, member and past chairman
of the Central New York Genealogical Society in Syracuse, NY and the Col.
Jonathan Bayard Smith DAR Chapter of Middletown, OH. Jean as a child and
wife lived in many locations in New York State. She spent many years in
Horseheads, NY, East Greenbush, NY, Liverpool, NY, Middletown, OH, San
Dimas, CA, Zephyrhills, FL, and more recently in Castleton, NY. She was
married to her loving husband of 56 years, Spencer Eugene "Gene" Worden.
Jean is survived by her daughters, Susan Barber (Joe) of Coppell, TX, Sheryl
Ryan (Dennis) of East Greenbush, NY, and Sally Richards (Brian) of Middletown,
PA. She is the cherished grandmother of Lisa Kelly Rodriguez (Victor),
Linda Marra Galligan (Thomas), Michelle Marra Fiacco (Mauro), Heather Beauchamp
Shumberger (Robert), Christopher Beauchamp; and great-grandmother of Tyler
Fiacco, Madison Beauchamp, Jadin Fiacco, and Victoria Rodriguez. Jean was
predeceased by her son, Steven Eugene Worden. Friends are invited to call
at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads, on Saturday, August
27, 2005, from 10-11 a.m. A Memorial Service will be held there at 11 a.m.with

DAVIS Leland Richard
Age 87 of Horseheads, NY died on Thursday April 30, 2009. Leland was
born on August 28, 1921 in Whitesville, NY the son of the late Frank and
Edith Brooks Davis. Mr. Davis was a Veteran of WWII serving his country
with the U.S. Army. He worked as a supervisor for the Western Electric
Company in Elmira, NY. He married his wife Elizabeth Sterling Davis on
May 19, 1951 and they would have celebrated their 58th Wedding Anniversary
this year on May 19, 2009. Leland was a former member of Gideon's International,
Kiwanis and Telephone Pioneers. He was an avid gardener and birdwatcher
and also loved hunting and fishing. Leland loved his family and cherished
the time spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mr. Davis
is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Sterling Davis; son and daughter-in-law:
Richard and Donna Davis of Athens, GA; daughter and son-in-law: Nancy and
George White of Lowman, NY; grandchildren: Colin Davis, Brendan Davis,
Devon Davis, Reid and Katrina Anderson, Steven Anderson; great grandchildren:
Cohen, Wesley, Brooklyn, and Audrey Anderson; several nieces, nephews,

DAYTON Roy L. "Cork"
Age 79 of Horseheads, NY died on Wednesday May 13, 2009. Roy was born
on July 9, 1929 in Schenectady, NY the son of the late Sidney and Ruth
Forrest Palmer. Mr. Dayton was a Veteran of the Korean War serving his
country with the U.S. Army. Roy was a retired Mould Maker from Thatcher
Glass in Elmira, NY and from Carbaugh Tool and Avis Rental. He was pre-deceased
by his sister Elma Donovan and his brother Charlie Dayton. Mr. Dayton is
survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Edward R. and Marjorie L. Dayton
of Horseheads, NY; Fred and Jaye Dayton of Grand Island, NY; daughters:
Donna Dayton of Tampa, FL; Mary Ann Dayton of Bloomingdale, GA; brother

DECKER DORA RARRICK Dora D. Age 78 of 2216 Grand Central Avenue Horseheads, NY died on Sunday April 30, 2006. Dora was born March 11, 1928 in Mansfield, PA the daughter of the late Fred R. and Ada Jones Decker. She was a graduate of Mansfield High School Class of 1946. Dora married her husband, Deyo C. Rarrick, on July 7, 1946 and he pre-deceased her on December 17, 1993. She was also pre-deceased by two brothers and two sisters. She attended Michigan State University and Elmira College. Mrs. Rarrick was a counselor for The New York State Unemployment Service and later worked as the Head of Housekeeping at The Arnot Ogden Medical Center and worked as the Postmaster at Elmira College. Dora was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Horseheads, the Elmira Heights American Legion Post # 154 Auxiliary, and the Elmira Grottoettes. Mrs. Rarrick is survived by her daughter: Barbara Koernig of Horseheads, NY; son and daughter-in-law: Bruce & Marcia Rarrick of Stevensville, MI; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one great grandchild due in August; brother and sister-in-law: Charles & Betty Lou Decker of Oxford, NY; brother-in-law: Roger Tomb of Westfield, PA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. ALFRED DEGRAW JR., age 78 of South Dayton and Wellsburg, NY, died Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at Tri-County Memorial Hospital in Gowanda, New York. He was born January 6, 1922 in North Chemung, New York, the son of the late Alfred Sr. and Mary (Krumloff) DeGraw. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a Moldmaker at Thatcher Glass in Elmira, New York. He also owned and operated his own Electrical Business. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Southport. He was a member of the Private Pilots Association and was an avid recreational pilot and bowler. He is survived by his wife Giovina (Lib) DeGraw of Highland Lakes, NJ, Linda A. Brown (Daughter) of South Dayton, NY, Charles DeGraw (Brother) of Millport, NY, Floyd DeGraw (Brother) of Big Flats, NY, Helen Bennett (Sister) of Elmira, NY; 3 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Roselen (Spencer) DeGraw, and James DeGraw (Brother). Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Elmira, NY. Rev. DEIBLER James C. - Age 69 of 48 Homeland Road, North Syracuse, NY, died on Wednesday, September 3, 2003. Jim was born July 22, 1934 in Frankfort, NY, the son of Benjamin L. Deibler & Della Ostrander Deibler. He was a retired machinist at General Electric in Syracuse, NY. Mr. Deibler was a veteran of The Korean War serving his country with the US Army. CHARLES ‘RAY’ DEKAY. A longtime resident of Pine City, died on Sunday morning, March 28, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Hospital at the age of 92. Born on June 3, 1911 here in Elmira, the son of John R. and Mae Watson DeKay, Ray made this area his lifelong home. He was a pressman for Elmira Quality Printers for many years until his retirement in 1976 and was a Steward in the Local Printers Union. Ray was a lifelong member of the Pine City Baptist Church where he was active as a church deacon and served on the board of trustees. He was active in the Union-Cooley #95 Masonic Lodge of Elmira. He enjoyed rose gardening, caring for his home, and cherished time with his family. Age 66 of Hatfield St. Horseheads died at home after a long courageous
battle with cancer on Thurs Sept. 24, 2009. June was born April 23, 1943
in Elmira, NY, the daughter to the late Joseph and Alice (Seeley) Denkenberger.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Frycek; Their children,
John (Pamela) Frycek of Syracuse, NY, Scott (Danielle) Frycek of Mt. Sinai,
NY, Michelle (Hector) Colon of Elmira, NY, and Eric Frycek at home; Grandchildren,
Emily, Ethan, Ellie, Jack, Thomas, Miguel, Jose and Julia; Sister, Donna
(Paul) Boor; Brothers, Joseph and Edward Denkenberger all of Horseheads
and Robert Denkenberger of Elmira; lifelong friend, Karren Harter of Horseheads;

June was retired from the Horseheads Central School District where she
worked as an administrative assistant in the Big Flats Elementary School.
She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed cooking, gardening. Family

DANIEL G. DENKENBERGER, age 39, of Horseheads, died unexpectedly Tuesday, September 30, 2003. He was predeceased by his father, Daniel in 1998; and his grandparents, Joseph & Alice Denkenberger. A 1982 graduate of Horseheads High School. Daniel was attending Corning Community College. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and also loved to cook. One of his famous specialties was “Uncle Danny’s Chicken” with his own “Secret Sauce.” Dan loved the Lord and he loved spending time with his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. DENKENBERGER - SHERMAN, Pauline (Denkenberger)
Passed from this life on October 6, 2008, while a resident of Elcor
Health Services Colonial Ridge North. Mrs. Sherman was born June 10, 1929
on East Hill in the Town of Elmira to Ludwig F. and Olive M. (Benson) Denkenberger.
While she was an infant, the family moved to Cuyler, NY, where she was
raised, attending school in neighboring DeRuyter. Pauline moved to the
Village of Horseheads in 1948 when she married Ronald J. Sherman on September
19th. For several years they operated Sherman's Grocery, which stood on
the site of the current Horseheads Holiday Inn. They moved to Elmira and,
in 1978, returned to Horseheads when they purchased the Sherman family
house at 713 West Broad Street, where she lived until recently. Pauline
was predeceased by her parents; husband of 49 years, Ronald, on April 9,
1997; brother, James Valentine Denkenberger of Tully; brother, Ludwig Glenn
Denkenberger of Cuyler; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John H. and Winifred
(Gardner) Sherman of Horseheads; brothers-in-law, John H., Lewis and Robert
L. Sherman of W. Elmira, Horseheads and Big Flats, respectively; and numerous
well-loved family canine members. She is survived by her son, Ronald J.
Sherman, Jr. of Erin; sister, Grace (Robert L.) Sherman of Big Flats; brother
and sister-in-law, E. Robert and Jeanine Denkenberger of DeRuyter; brother
and sister-in-law, Gary and Patricia Letts of Greenwood, California; sisters-in-law,
Cleo (James V.) Denkenberger of Tully, and Herta (L. Glenn) Denkenberger
of DeRuyter; step grandchildren, Max T. Stahl of Chicago, and Juliet C.
S. Schatzberger of NYC; numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, friends; and
her dearest lifelong and supportive friend, Joan Lockwood of Auburn. Pauline
lost her mother very early. She and her siblings were raised through the
depression years by a hard-working and loving father who sacrificed all
for his children. In return, they all loved him dearly, thrived on their
bond, and raised their own children with an intense love of family. Pauline
worked hard as a wife, mother, homemaker, and full-time employee of Allendale
Dairy, Loblaws, and finally retiring early from Great American on Lake
Road in 1992 to provide at home care for her husband. She served as a Cub
Scout den-mother, participated in all Boy Scout troop fund-raising dinners
and activities, and was a former communicant of St. Matthew's Episcopal
Church. Pauline's son acknowledges and extends his heartfelt thanks and
appreciation to the professional and supportive staff at Elcor Health Services
for the comfort and care provided Pauline during her residency with them.

Age 63 formerly of Horseheads, NY died on Tuesday November 3, 2009
after a brief illness. Bob was born August 9, 1946 in Elmira, NY the son
of the late Joseph and Alice G. Seeley Denkenberger. He was a Vietnam War
Veteran serving his country with the US Army and a former member of The
Clarence R. Oliver American Legion Post # 154 in Elmira Heights, NY. Robert
was pre-deceased by his father Joseph Denkenberger on March 17, 1988, his
mother Alice G. Seeley Denkenberger on August 3, 2002, his brother Daniel
Denkenberger on July 5, 1998, and his sister Alice June Frycek on September
24, 2009. Mr. Denkenberger was a retired District Manager with Combined

DERRY Merritt B. Age 79, of Horseheads, NY, died November 1, 2006 at Bethany Manor, Horseheads. Merritt was born July 10, 1927 in Elmira, NY, the son of the late Merritt P. and Rodah Jones Derry. He married Monna Munn on May 30, 1948 in Niagara Falls, NY. She predeceased him in June, 2002. He was a graduate of Trott Vocational School in Niagara Falls, NY, and worked as a supervisor at Facet Enterprises, Elmira Heights. Merritt enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1945 and was discharged in 1946. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and enjoyed woodworking, summers at the lake, winters in Florida, and spending time with his family. DOANE Eldon L. "Eldie"
A longtime resident of Elmira died Monday, August 18, 2008 at his home.
Born on August 6, 1925 in Elmira Heights, Eldon was the son of Leon &
Winifred Walker Doane. He was married to Marcella Mault Doane for over
50 years until her passing in 1998. Together they provided a wonderful
home for friends and family to gather. "Eldie's" interests included woodworking
and he was a Freelance Artist. He was employed for 38 years by Thatcher
Glass as a machinist. In serving his country, "Eldie" was a WWII Navy Veteran
who served in the South Pacific, serving on two separate PT Boats. He was
a member of the Clarence Oliver Legion Post # 154 of Elmira Heights. Surviving
is Sandra (Joseph) Slavin, Elmira for whom he cared for like a daughter;
a granddaughter, Missy (Todd) Campbell, San Diego, CA; a loving nephew,
Archie (Linda) Sturch, Southport; a special cousin, Lynn (Janet) Doane,
Horseheads; several nieces and nephews along with his feathered friend,
"Barney". In addition to his parents and beloved Marcella, "Eldie" was

Olgia V. Formerly of Sullivanville, NY Age 81, was born February 29,
1924 in Schuyler County, the daughter of the late Mason and Pearl (Hockenberry)
Doane. She celebrated her 'coronation day' on Monday, November 7, 2005,
as she was ushered to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Saviour.
Her beloved husband, Murl, in 1988; and her sisters, Evelyn and Kathryn,
predeceased Olgia. She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law,
Rev. Murlen and Sandra Brasted of Hamptonville, NC; much loved grandchildren,
Murlen Jr. (Renae) Brasted of Shreveport, TX, Kevin (Cathy) Brasted of

and more recently her husband, Howard Hoffman in 2008. She is survived

and Vicki Doane, Jo Ellen and Keith Suiter, Jan and Fred Kinner, David
and Denise Doane; stepdaughter, Carol Ann and Steven Merrill; numerous

DORKO - FORMECK Irene B.
Age 75 of Horseheads, NY died on Thursday April 2, 2009. Irene was
born on June 14, 1933 in Spangler, PA the daughter of the late John and
Mary Gmetter Dorko. She married her husband Robert E. Formeck Sr. on June
21, 1957 and they would have celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary
on June 21, 2009. Mrs. Formeck was a Teacher's Aide with the Horseheads
Central School District in Horseheads, NY for over 30 years. She was a
communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads, NY. Irene was
pre-deceased by her parents; brother John Dorko; sisters and brothers-in-law:
Mary and Paul Bills; Martha and Billy Joe Lantzy; Genevieve and Rich Surkonch;
Donald Stiles; John Barczak; Elzie Gray; mother-in-law and father-in-law:
Charles and Ann Sedlock Formeck; brother-in-law: Ross Formeck. Mrs. Formeck
loved her family and friends and cherished the time she spent with them
especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Formeck is survived by her loving and
devoted husband of 52 years Robert E. Formeck Sr.; sons and daughters-in-law:

DOSTMAN - FOLGER, Winifred Held
Age 88, and longtime resident of Riverside, CA, and formerly of E.
Franklin St., Horseheads, died quietly on Oct. 3, 2007. She was born in
Elmira, NY, the daughter to the late George and Lela (Hungerford) Dostman.
Winifred was predeceased by her husbands, Clifford Held of Horseheads,
NY, and E. C. "Pete" Folger of Riverside, CA. She was also predeceased
by her former husband, H. Spurgeon Moss. Her surviving family includes
her daughters, Lucinda Moss Terwilliger of Lowman, NY, Connie Moss Mays
of Rainbow Valley, CO, Lee St. John (AKA Bonnie Held) of Riverside, CA;
three grandsons, granddaughters-in-law, two great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Also surviving are a brother, George Dostman of Rochester, NY; sister-in-law,
Betty Dostman of Spencerport, NY. She was also predeceased by her siblings,
Charles (Marge) Dostman, Ralph (Bea) Dostman, Danny Dostman; and sister-in-law,
Anne Dostman. Locally she was a graduate of Breesport High School and former
employee of Westinghouse Corp. In California she was also member of the
V.F.W. and American Legion Auxiliary. She was a lifetime member of the
Society of Military Widows and a volunteer at the Riverside California
Kaiser Hospital for 20 years. Her passions were playing bridge and rooting
for the Anaheim Angels. She was a strong, loyal, comical and loving woman
whose family meant everything to her. She will be profoundly missed, but
will always remain in the hearts of her family and friends. She was also
a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Riverside, CA,
where she will be remembered Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at their Sunday Morning
Worship. Locally, burial services will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery.

DRAKE Charles M., U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, Age 82 of Horseheads, NY, died Friday, October 9, 1998 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Charles was born September 10, 1916 in Horseheads, to the late Charles & Elizabeth Drake. He is survived by his brother-in-law Walter L. Madison of Horseheads & several nieces & nephews. Charles was predeceased by brother, Willard Drake; sisters, Elizabeth Madison, Bertha Gram, Jeanette Bailey, & Helen Rodabaugh. Charles was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, a foreman for the Dept. of Transportation of NYS, a past member of the Beagle Club of Elmira, NY. He was also a avid hunter & fisherman. 3, 1991, at the home of her daughter, Sharon. Helen was a very devoted
mother & is survived by 3 loving daughters & sons-in-law, Jacquelyn
& George Smith of Ithaca, Danielle & Thomas Sackel of Scotia, NY,
Sharon & Gordon Gardner Jr. of Horseheads; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren;
sisters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Walter) Madison of Horseheads, Bertha Graham of
Elmira Heights; brothers, Charles & Willard Drake both of Horseheads;
several nieces & nephews. Helen was born February 17, 1913 in Elmira,
NY, a daughter of Charles A. & Elizabeth Rorick Drake. She was predeceased
on October 9, 1950 by her husband, Cecil C. Rodabaugh & previously
by infant daughters, Stella Marie & Mary Elizabeth. In the years following
the passing of her husband, Helen cared for many foster children. She was
also an employee of LRC Electronics, retiring in 1975 & was a member
of the First United Methodist Church of Horseheads. Friends are invited

DRAKE John N - Decorated World War II Veteran Age 77 of Horseheads, NY died Thursday, June 22, 2000 at home. He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie H. Drake; daughters, Carol and Scott Clune of Horseheads, NY and Edna and John Shook of Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Scotty, Jimmy and Amy Clune, Randy and Johnpaul Paciorek; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Rachel and Kristina; sister, Alice Herr of Corning, NY; several nieces and nephews. Also survived by his most special friends, "Candie" and "Bootsie". John was predeceased by his sister, Anna Mae and brother, Harry. He was a member of the V.F.W., the Big Flats American Legion and the Horseheads Elks Club. John served in the United States Army during World War II serving in Algeria-French Morocco, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Sicily. He served his country well and was given the American Defense Service Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge with 2 oak leaf clusters and the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal. DRAKE Todd Michael Age 43, of Hannibal, NY, died Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at University Hospital, Syracuse, NY. He was born in Elmira, NY, and he has been a resident of Hannibal for 18 years. Mr. Drake owned and operated Arbortek Tree Service, Hannibal, NY. He was a volunteer coach with Fulton Pop Warner Football and Fulton Knee High Basketball. Mr. Drake was an avid fan of all Fulton High School sport events. He was a member of the Young Men's Presidency in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Mr. Drake is survived by his wife, Laurie Drake of Hannibal; his son, Ryan Michael Drake of London, England; and his daughter, Racheal (Jim) Kent of Hannibal; four siblings, Diana Lee Root of Conklin, NY, Carl Richard Drake, Harpursville, NY, Lonnie Joe Drake of Fulton, and Scott William Drake of Fulton; his grandson, Tristan Kent; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Allen Drake. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Fulton. DRAPER Clifford J. Age 81, of Horseheads, NY, died on Friday, February 17, 2006, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born on September 26, 1924 in Wayne, NY, to the late Jesse and Lois (Gould) Draper. Clifford was predeceased by his wife, June (Miller) Draper; and brothers, Charles, Harold and Kenneth Draper. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie Draper-Donley and Shawn Donley of Huntingtown, MD; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Vevia Morse of Horseheads, Durwood Hopkins of Corning, Clara Draper of Palmyra, NY, and Augusta Draper of Bath, NY; step granddaughter, Jenn Donley of Tucson, AZ; along with several nieces and nephews. Clifford was a concrete mixer driver and was employed by Elmira Transit Mix and later with Dalrymple Construction. After retirement, he was a school crossing guard for the Town of Horseheads. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Horseheads for over 50 years, where he was a church usher and a member of the United Methodist Men. Clifford served our country in the US Army from 1946 to 1947. He was also a ham radio operator and enjoyed bowling, biking, ballroom dancing and cross-country skiing. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, February 21st, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. DUNBAR Richard Franklin
Age 99, formerly of Elmira Heights and Horseheads, and recently of
Odessa, NY, died peacefully Friday, December 14, 2007, at Seneca View,
Montour Falls, NY. Born August 6, 1908 in Elmira, NY, he graduated from
Thomas A. Edison High School as Salutatorian in 1926. He later graduated
from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1932 with a degree in civil engineering
and was a member of Sigma XI. He married Delores Kidd in 1937 and was married
for 69 years. He was a member of the Oakwood United Methodist Church. He
spent 8 years as traveling auditor (1932-1940) for Jewel Tea Company, later
working for American Bridge as a structural Engineer (1940-43), Eclipse
Bendix Corp as research and test engineer (1943), becoming Assistant Plant
Engineer (1950), and later Plant Engineer (1952). He became District General
Manager for Chemung County Sewer District in 1962, and was involved in
numerous community organizations. Richard served as Elmira Heights Village
Clerk (1944-56), President of Elmira Industrial Management Club, Past Master
of Elmira Heights F&AM Lodge 913, Past Director of the YMCA, member
of Chemung County Planning Board and Water Pollution Control Association
of New York State, a Boy Scout assistant leader, and devoted father, grandfather,
and great-grandfather. The family will provide flowers. Memorials in his
memory be directed to the Oakwood United Methodist Church Memorial Fund,
212 Oakwood Ave., Elmira Heights, NY 14903; or Schuyler Hospital, c/o Schuyler
Health Foundation, PO Box 828, Montour Falls, NY 14865. He is survived
