30 years a citizen of Delmar but for the last four years a resident of
Lincoln, Delaware, died at the latter place Nov. 24, 1868 in the 57th year
of his age. He was brought to Wellsboro for interment and the funeral was
held at St. Paul's Church sunday conducted by Rev. O.L. Gibson, assisted
by Presiding Elder Cochran. Mr. Jackson was born in Great Valley, about
20 miles from Philadelphia and came to Tioga Co with his parents when very
young. He was an active member of the Methodist Church for more than a
quarter of a century. |

Mrs. Hetty Murry died in Wellsboro, July
4th, aged about 95 years. Known as "Aunt Hetty". Her husband, Eben Murry
died some years ago. They accompanied the family of William Wells to this
region in July 1804. Aunt Hetty was a pure-bred African. Her mother was
the daughter of one of the Head-Man of the Guinea Coast and was brought
to this country about the middle of the last century. Both she and her
husband were born in slavery and received the gift of their time from Mr.
Wells. |
